How I started my Journey
When my husband and I moved to Australia, we had nothing but our suitcases and a big dream. But reality hit quickly, we didn’t know where or how to begin building a life from the ground up.
Naturally, we were hesitant to invest. We didn’t want to risk the little we had.
Eventually, we bought our first home. At the time, our only goal was to pay off the mortgage and live simply, avoiding any financial risks.
But as I progressed in my career as a chartered accountant, after three years of study, I had the opportunity to work with Hewlett Packard, Deloitte, Oracle, and multiple public sector organizations. I even led a $22B health finance reporting system implementation.
This exposure gave me insight into real estate investing. But what truly shifted my mindset was discovering a few secondhand books about real estate in a thrift shop. I couldn’t put them down. For the first time, I truly understood how property investing works. As someone who relies on numbers to make decisions, it all finally made sense.
That “aha” moment sparked action. I built spreadsheets, reviewed our family budget, and explored refinancing options. To my surprise, our home had gained enough value to allow us to invest in apartments. It was a well-researched decision, and despite some initial doubts we went for it.
Eight years into homeownership, I’ve realized how much is possible.
Today, we own our home and a growing portfolio of investment properties that generate passive rental income. We started from nothing, working entry-level jobs with no local experience, and navigated one of the most expensive property markets in the world.
If we could do it, so can you. Now it’s your turn, and I’m here to help.
